Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi

Hello! Welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam.

  • Upon arrival at Noi Bai Airport, the car and tour guide will pick you up with a sign and take you straight to your hotel in the Old Quarter.
  • After checking in, you are free to relax and enjoy the view of Hanoi, then you can go to a restaurant for dinner.

Day 2: Hanoi – Fullday City Tour

Morning: After breakfast, the car and tour guide will take you to visit Hanoi.

  • Ho Chi Minh Monument – Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a place to commemorate the founder of the country, you will visit Ba Dinh Square and One Pillar Pagoda…
  • Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam, with beautiful gardens and well-preserved architecture.

Noon: Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, savoring dishes with the flavor of Hanoi.

  • Then the car will take you to the outskirts of Hanoi to visit the Museum of Ethnology, which displays the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam.
  • Return to the city center to attend a traditional Water Puppet performance in the evening at a local theater. This art form of Northern Vietnam is illustrated through the scenes, giving you an overview of Vietnamese culture.
  • End of the tour you will arrive at Hoan Kiem Lake where you can learn about the legend of the lake and visit Ngoc Son Temple.

Overnight in Hanoi

Day 3: Hanoi – Cao Bang

After breakfast, the tour guide and driver will pick you up to Cao Bang. On the way, you will visit the Thai Nguyen Ethnic Museum. 3000 original documents and artifacts about the traditional culture of 54 ethnic groups are displayed and preserved at the Museum.

  • Arrive in Cao Bang in the afternoon, check in to the hotel, and relax after a long journey.

Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Nguom Ngao Cave

You wake up early to visit Cao Bang Central Market. Then, you will take a scenic drive to Ban Gioc Waterfall near Vietnam’s northern border with China. On the way, you will be introduced to the Nung people in Phuc Sen village, a small village famous for producing farming tools. Like the Tay people, the Nung people mainly live on terraced rice cultivation.

  • Arriving at Ban Gioc Waterfall, you will take a bamboo raft to explore the beautiful waterfall.

Noon: After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit Nguom Ngao Limestone Cave, one of the natural cave systems. Formed by an underground river, the cave extends several kilometers underground, where villagers took refuge during the 1979 war with China.

  • End the tour and return to your hotel in Cao Bang, you are free to relax for the rest of the day.

Day 5: Cao Bang – Ba Be Lake

After breakfast, you will visit Ba Be National Park, you will take a boat along the Nang River, explore the caves of Puong Cave, Dau Dang rapids and the small Widow Island. You will enjoy a picnic lunch by the waterfall.

  • The boat trip ends with a Tay village called Pac Ngoi, where you will stay overnight in a local cottage. After checking in and resting, you will walk around the village, meet and interact with the local people.
  • In the evening, you will enjoy a family-cooked dinner. If you want to join them in cooking, you can try it. This is a very interesting activity.

Overnight at Ba Be Lake

Day 6: Ba Be – Hoang Su Phi – Pan Hou

After breakfast, you will drive to Hoang Su Phi in the northeast of Vietnam. With mountains and valleys, the beautiful terraced fields are classified as “National Heritage”.

  • On the way, you will visit some local villages and markets.
  • Arrive and check in at Ecolodge Pan Hou Village, nestled in the heart of the high Song Chay mountain range, surrounded by the most spectacular landscapes in Vietnam.
  • Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Day 7: Hoang Su Phi – Bac Ha

After breakfast, you will take a long walk to the villages of the indigenous people, visiting the villages of the hill tribes. As you start your walk, you will pass by a village of the Dao people with their long dresses, who have built their houses on stilts on the mountainside. You will walk through the rice fields in the terraced fields and bamboo forests. Finally, you will come to a house of the Red Dao people. Enjoy local tea. You can take a rest while waiting for lunch or join the local guide to help him prepare the meal.

  • After enjoying the lunch organized by the family, you will return to Ecolodge Pan Hou to check out. Then, depart for a 4-hour drive to Bac Ha town. Deep in the mountains, Bac Ha town is a quiet water from Monday to Saturday, but on Sunday, people and tourists from everywhere flock here so it will be crowded, especially ethnic minorities from everywhere also come to gather.

Arrive in Bac Ha late afternoon and check into local hotel.

Day 8: Bac Ha Sunday Market – Sapa

Morning: After breakfast, the tour guide will take you to explore Bac Ha Sunday Market, where you can experience the culture with the locals or buy souvenirs as gifts.

Afternoon: After lunch at a local restaurant, you will drive downhill and start a short walk to Trung Do Village, home to the Tay ethnic minority, where you will visit a traditional Tay house. Then, take a boat to Bao Nhai Village. At the end of the boat trip, you will continue to Sapa Town for the night.

Day 9: Sapa – Ma Tra and Ta Phin Villages

Morning: After breakfast, your guide will take you on a 3km hike to Suoi Ho village, home to the H’Mong ethnic group.

  • Continue hiking to the beautiful Matra village. You will pass by the French Catholic church built in the early 20th century. Take a few minutes to explore this fascinating sight and take some photos as you wish.
  • The hike takes you to Ta Phin Village, home to another Red Dao ethnic minority tribe, with beautiful traditional embroidered costumes and the custom of shaving hair and eyebrows as a sign of respect.
  • You will visit a Red Dao family for tea, chat with them to learn about their lifestyle. Enjoy a delicious lunch cooked and served by the family.

Afternoon: Stroll around the village, take photos and shop. The Red Dao are famous for their expertise in herbal medicine as well as using plants from the land to treat many diseases. If you are a little sore after the day’s activities, try a traditional herbal bath performed by a local Dao practitioner, known for its therapeutic properties.

  • Leaving Ta Phin village, you will be picked up by your private driver and taken to your hotel in Sapa. The rest of the day will be at your leisure.

Day 10: Sapa – Fansipan Legend Cable Car – Return to Hanoi

After breakfast, your guide and driver will take you to Fansipan Cable Car Station to experience the cable car route, running from Sapa Town to the top of Fansipan Mountain at 3,143 meters high, known as the roof of Indochina.

  • You will take a 20-minute cable car ride through the clouds to Fansipan Mountain. Enjoy the view from the top of the beautiful mountain.
  • Leaving Fansipan Mountain, you will return to the hotel to check out. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, your guide and driver will take you back to Hanoi. The trip lasts about 5 hours with a quick stop on the way to visit the China Border.

Day 11: Hanoi – Hai Phong – Lan Ha Bay

Morning: After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the port city of Hai Phong, where you board the Junk Boat for an evening of relaxation.

  • At around noon, you will board the boat, starting your journey around Lan Ha Bay. Located to the south and east of Cat Ba Island, Lan Ha’s approximately 300 karst islands and limestone outcrops are as beautiful as Ha Long Bay.
  • After checking in, you will be served a delicious lunch, enjoying delicious Vietnamese cuisine and panoramic views of the bay
  • Relax on the deck or private balcony and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the open sea.

Afternoon: The Junk takes you past Con Vit and Gia Luan islands, their limestone formations rising dramatically from the bay.

  • Later in the afternoon, you will arrive at the shore of Cat Ba Island, where you will cycle (electric cars are also available) along the small paved roads towards Viet Hai village. Home to around 80 families, you will meet the locals, learn about the fruits and vegetables grown in the valley, and sample some homemade wine.
  • Back on the Junk boat, you will watch a cooking demonstration by the chef. Learn about local ingredients and how to prepare classic Vietnamese dishes.

Evening: As the sun sets, you will arrive at a quiet anchorage for the night. You can enjoy a cocktail under the stars.

  • After a sumptuous dinner, you can relax at the bar with a glass of wine, watch a movie in the cinema or go squid fishing before retiring to your room.

Overnight on board in Lan Ha Bay

Day 12: Lan Ha Bay – Hanoi

Morning: Wake up early and join a Tai Chi session on the deck to relax your mind and muscles as the first rays of sunlight hit the water. Coffee, tea and breakfast pastries are waiting for you in the dining room to start your day.

  • It’s time for the Junk to weigh anchor and head towards Frog Lake, a secluded spot for your morning excursion. Try “swimming the bay” or explore the seascape by kayak. The cliffs stretch out into the sea as you meander through these small, tree-covered islands.
  • Return to the Junk to check out. Then, enjoy a full breakfast buffet as you sail back to the pier.

Afternoon: Disembark at Got Wharf in Hai Phong City, where your private driver will be waiting for you to take you back to Hanoi.

  • After checking into your hotel, you are free to relax. Stroll around the Old Quarter or visit Hoan Kiem Lake & Ngoc Son Temple, a short walk from your hotel. It is beautifully lit up at night.
